Privacy Policy

ShelfStalk ("we", "us", "our") runs a community-driven local deals platform — a website and a mobile app — where users post and browse in-store deals nearby. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what control you have over it.
Information we collect
- Account information — the username, email address, and password you provide when you sign up. Passwords are stored hashed; we never see or store them in plain text.
- Content you post — deal photos and descriptions, shop names/locations, comments, votes ("still here" / "gone" / "spam"), and your saved lists.
- Location — if you use "near me" search or post a deal, the shop's location (and, if you choose to use it, your device's current location to help find or pick that shop) is used and stored as part of the deal's listing. We don't track or store your location beyond what's needed for those features.
- Photos and camera access — the app asks for camera/photo-library access only to let you attach a picture to a deal you're posting or to set your profile avatar. Photos you choose to upload are stored so they can be shown in the app; we don't access your photo library beyond what you pick.
- Basic technical data — standard server logs (e.g. IP address) used for security and to prevent abuse (rate limiting on login/signup), and the tokens that keep you signed in.
How we use it
Strictly to run the product: showing your posts and profile to other users, powering search/filtering and "near me", sending you the account-related emails described below, and keeping the platform reasonably free of spam and abuse. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Third parties we rely on
Running ShelfStalk means a few specialized services handle parts of this on our behalf, each only for the purpose listed:
- Cloudinary — stores and serves the photos you upload (deal photos, avatars).
- Brevo — sends account emails (signup verification codes, password reset codes). Only your email address and the message content pass through it.
- Google (Places, Geocoding, Maps) — powers shop search and the location map when you post a deal or search "near me." Location text you search, or coordinates you select, are sent to Google to look up matching places/addresses.
- Railway — hosts our servers and database.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile, avatar, username, and email at any time from Account Settings.
- You can delete your account at any time, from Account Settings in the app or website, or by emailing us at the address below. This permanently deletes your account and everything tied to it — profile, deal posts, comments, votes, and saved lists. This can't be undone.
- Camera, photo, and location permissions can be revoked at any time in your device's system settings — the app will just ask again if you try to use a feature that needs one.
Children's privacy
ShelfStalk isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
